What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, non-invasive alternative healing method that originated in Japan over 100 years ago. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word “Rei” which means "Universal Life" and “Ki” which means "Energy". Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Ideally, one’s "Ki" or energy should be strong and free flowing, nourishing and revitalizing the body and mind. By easing tension and stress that often blocks the natural flow of energy, Reiki therapy assists the body in creating an environment that facilitates healing on all levels -- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health defines Reiki as:
Reiki is a complementary health approach in which practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above a person, with the goal of directing energy to help facilitate the person’s own healing response. It’s based on an Eastern belief in a life force energy that supports the body’s innate or natural healing abilities.

Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness although many studies have demonstrated the helpful benefits of Reiki for treating trauma and stress. Reiki can be used as a preventive health care measure alongside traditional health care and is often practiced in hospitals and other health care settings.
Benefits of Reiki therapy:
• Promotes relaxation and stress reduction
• Decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety
• Mood regulation
• Emotional regulation
• Trauma healing
• Pain reduction
• Strengthen the immune system
• Support the body’s natural healing process
• Increase energy levels
